Thread: Benefits of a Dedicated IP Address

Although Google says you don’t have to have a dedicated IP address, I recently had a wake-up call when I read an article that pointed out that most top ranking sites on Google have a dedicated IP address.
I had been lulled by the Goog’s assurances that they were not needed if the shared sites were not porn or gambling sites, although I always recommend them for clients (dedicated IPs that is). Once again, it’s hellooooo Kay, follow your own recommendations!


For those of you who don’t know what a dedicated IP address is…when you buy hosting for your web site, you share the server with other web sites. This means you share the same IP address. Large hosting sites often put many thousands of web sites on the same server (a recent client had over 72,000 sites on the same web server they use). The big danger is that some, or even one, can be blacklisted, or serve porn or gambling, which reflects on your innocent little site.


So the safest thing to do is pony up the $4 a month or so and get a dedicated IP address (you don’t need a dedicated server, btw, if the two terms confuse you). That way your site is the only one listed on that address. Besides the renewed opportunity to gain the first page in Google searches, your site will load faster, hopefully go down less often, and it it won’t end up in what’s called a "bad neighborhood."

I personally don't think this gives an edge on ranking. I have lot of sites with dedicated ip and server; some of them rank well some really bad.

I think dedicated ip not give help for getting good SERP for god SERP need to quality SEO work...

Dedicated IP's serve many puposes but im pretty sure one of them is not for a better ranking. I guess if anything it makes you a little unique but thats about it.

• Anonymous FTP – It means that anyone using the FTP software can access files in a special directory of your site. It’s called Anonymous FTP because the user name used to access is “anonymous.” Many Web hosting providers require a static IP for the anonymous FTP function to work properly.

• You want to access your website by FTP or Web browser even when the domain name is inaccessible, such as domain name propagation periods.

• Remote access – With a static IP address you can access your PC no matter where you are in the world. Using programs such as Remote Administrator and PC Anywhere you can log into your work or home PC no matter where you are. Although you can set the connection up regardless of what type of IP address you have, you need a fixed address to maintain it otherwise the program will no longer be able to find your computer when your PC refreshes its dynamic address.

Dedicated Ip-address is good for sites to host,if you have website means you can better get the Dedicated ip-address from your ISP it's best for Hosting sites,it will dedicated for you,other sites cannot share it.So it's so secured ip-address,hacking is not possible...Site also so fast,you can check the ip-address at here ip-details.com it shows it details.

Another SEO benefit of having a dedicated IP is the clean environment for your website, when using shared IP there is a possibility that you are sharing the same IP with hundreds of spammers, some search engines will penalize the whole IP in case they found hundreds of spammy website using the same IP.

You share such a unique info related to seo which i doesn't know about it. It may help me to understand google algorithm more better.
