Are you telling about forum avatar? If you successfully complete your upload, and profile failed to show your picture, then your picture may be too large or to small, that cant adjust to avatar. Try again, resizing your profile picture.

actually, this happen to me as well. I cant find the edit profile picture link. I though the link is in My Profile, but actually it is in Settings section.
Just go your settings section and click edit profile picture then upload your avatar picture.
