Thread: It all started in April of 2006

It all started in April of 2006 when I decided to open my first real website. How difficult could building a website be? It seems pretty easy, just get a content management system, or maybe a forum and thousands of people will flock to your site. Or so it seemed anyway.

After trying a couple of free Content Management Systems and forums, I decided to go with MDPro from Maxdev. It has a built in forum and content management system, so it seemed to fit the bill.

The next 8 months were spent on promotion, link building, writing articles, directory submission,,,, the usual stuff. After about 8 - 12 months and just a little bit of traffic, I started to wonder where I had gone wrong.

When the forum was one year old, I knew it was time for a change. The old site was closed, and a new site opened with VBulletin software. At was at this time I also opened my youtube channel.

Making videos is not an easy thing to do, that is probably why so few webmasters do it. You have to have a good camera, have to know how to use the editing software, need a good high speed connection, lots of spare time for trial and error.

Lets fast forward 2 1/2 years.

Now my forum has 82,316 threads, 1,093,999 post, 24,938 members and 5,074 active members.

To tap into a market, you have to offer something that nobody is. You have to be able to offer your targeted audience something that nobody else can. Whether its videos, podcast, images, EBooks,,, you have to be in touch with your targeted audience.

One of the main things that I have learned, building a website is not for quitters. If you give up easily, do not even bother starting a site. Regardless of how easy it "looks", building a website is a lot of hard work.

wow thats some serious numbers there.

You are very right that, quitters never go anywhere. On our way we might fail in many cases, but eventually the hard worker wins as long as we learn our lessons from the mistakes we make.

Lot of people have the impression that just opening a website would make them the next millionaire. Unfortunately that ain't that easy.

Thats a great success in 2 and half year really! Great job.

over 1 million posts.. if you're using Adsense one every page with CTR of 1.5% at .10 cents per click you have earned already $1500.. that's for adsense alone!

Some of them seem to require registration, not all.
