Default Web Developer as I am Now

When I was doing my masters at North Dakota State University, I had to take an option if I wanna do a thesis or project paper to complete the Masters degree. Its a required thing. I choose the project option, thinking it would be easier plus I could take some extra courses I wanted to have. So I started working with Dr. Paul Juell, associate profession at the department of CS, building a web-based system that would manage students waiting to be enrolled in a class, but cant register at the moment because of the class capacity. It was a Java Servlet based web application, Java was a hot thing back then. That was the beginning of my web development.

Most CS major students don't like to take web development as their profession, they mostly choose core programming. For me I would have taken anything to get over the bad economic time.

When I graduated we were in the middle of a bad economic recession. I moved to Boston, I had a friend there. I had a $500 Toyota camry car filled with my stuffs driving to Boston. All the way as I was driving, I was praying to God so it doesn't break down in the middle of the road; then I would not be able to pay for a bus fair to Boston. I had money to pay for gas only halfway. I got a small $50 loan from a friend of mine in Michigan.

After a few months of tough time, I found a small job managing a html based e-commerce website. During that time they made about $2000 per month to the max. I started working really hard for them, with unpaid overtimes. I was the only one in the team.

After a year they started selling $30,000+ per month. Everybody was so impressed. They had me develop a whole new system to compete with the big guys online. At the end of 3 years they made 5 million dollars yearly sales and growing.

Now I have started my web development firm Boston Web Developer. I don't have the Toyota Camry anymore, but I did drive brand new Infinity G35, Acura RDX.

I don't know if its inspirational. But I do have a dream to go forward, thats what drives me work hard every day.

nice story Manik.. thanks for sharing.. as for me, it's has only been two years that i got interested in the concept of the Internet (or the "marketing" within ).. i am not a computer science graduate so it was very hard for me to learn all things and processes about the hows and whats of the internet including website creation. during tough times, i am easily discouraged.. what i usually do is to read inspiring stories like your post to get my spirits up.. after a few whining, i then continue to learn and apply what i've learned here in the cyber world..

life is a learning process, is it not?

It sure is a learning process

Get a mentor, somebody to talk to in tough times. That really helps.
