well, there are lots of social network sites that can bring traffic to our sites but there are only few (depending on our techniques and niche) than can actually send traffic that can convert.

Conversions are rare through social networks. Isn't? Basically that are social networks.

it could be rare, well, the nature of the social network is one issue (niche) the next would then be our content... since in those network, those people does not intend to purchase anything (cause if they did, they would be querrying keywords for it) primarily, but if we have an interesting site, landing page for them, a car for sale made interested like cars for sale with big discount, then chances of making that visitor stay longer and maybe purchase would be bigger...

I would say that it depends on the social networking site. If it is a niched site that matches your site's niche then you will get good conversions.

the way others interact
the way others interact on what activity you have. the more you make it interesting the more traffic will you get from it. such as twitter, my space and other social networks,. but making interesting things is not easy.. like in other forum. the newbies have to gain some reputation first

Rightly said, more you reputed more you will be trusty, and more traffic you will get,and it requires more active and heavy participation from your side in the communities you had joined or in forums.
So be a active member of your community or a forum.

For marketing, yes. My advice is to sign up for the best, or the ones that you like the best, then out of those, pick the one or two your understand and feel that you could really use that resource to its full potential, and do so. You're not going to get too much done keeping a million social networks updated.

Right my friend,
Apart from social bookmarking communities like orkut, facebook, myspace, xing, plaxo etc are great to promote your products and bring huge traffic. Submiting your quality content and articles on social networking and news websites can help you a great way of attracting traffic....

Social networking sites are a good place to share your websites and articles too but you really have to be careful so that you don't become a spammer. Because if that happens, all your friends will ban you.

Hi Mit... maybe himoacs was trying to say that if a user will bookmarked in the right category... it will going to be a useful one. I mean, if a user bookmarked a web page that is all about global warming in the "environment" category, the chances are... users with interest in environment will get interested with what he/she bookmarked and would later on go to his/her site.
