I think Directory Submission and Social bookmarking both are equally important for Website Promotion...By Directory Submission You can increase your website Links  and by social bookmarking you can increase your social bookmarking links..so by both technique  you can increase your traffic and promote your website... 

In my opinion, Social bookmarking is the best.

According to my knowledge Social Bookmarking is the best technique.

Both the activities are used as SEO techniques. Problem about directories are they accept your link on high requirements and their approval usually comes from 4 weeks to 20 weeks. But in Bookmarking your link approve so quickly as compare to Directories. Thats' why much people prefer Bookmarking on Directories.

I like Social bookmarking because it is use for bookmark your website in internet. It is best way to

* Increase the traffic
* Fast Indexing
* Increase the visibility
* Get traffic for long time

blog creation is best for faster results, social bookmarking helps for indexing and directory submission serves good page rank.

I would spend more time and effort on, first, blog creation, then promoting the blog through social bookmarking. Directory submission is rather passive, the way I see it.

Yeah, directory and article submission is not as effective as before, since there are many webmaster using it for spamming.
