how alexa works?

alexa gives ur site ranking on the basis of ur site visitors, html structure, visibility of your site nad time spent by visitors on ur site. as compare to google ,alexa is not that much restrict as goolge is,

im not sure how it works but as far as i know, alexa is used as a tool to check your site's ranking in terms to traffic all over the web. For example: google ranks as number 1 in alexa and yahoo got the rank 2. It means that google owns the most traffic of all websites in the world wide web. And obviously, yahoo is on the 2nd rank.

I don't know if there are 2 or more websites with the same alexa rankings.

Alexa is a quick and easy way to estimate how popular your site is and how it compares to other sites. Alexa isn't entirely accurate, because it relies on statistical sampling that isn't random.

I do use Alexa to tell me how the next guy is doing, and the one after that. But there are many other sources of data about competitors: sample orders, cash register tapes, surveys. For those who want to pay for the data, Nielson runs a web traffic report, although I doubt it is much better than Alexa's.
