Black hat: This is Unethical SEO. Search Engine Optimization techniques that defy search engine TOS.

White hat: an ethical SEO method that follows search engine TOS.

Grey hat: an SEO using both methods.

Here's another definition:

White Hat - devoted to properly optimize your site to attract crawlers attention and to build long-friendly relationship with search engines.

Black Hat - is defined as the process of using unethical techniques in order to get high rankings.

Gray Hat - doing both black hat and white hat SEO.

Thanks for the Grey SEO information. But why anybody use Grey Hat SEO, it includes the Black Hat techniques which can harm our site in Search engines.

A Greenhat SEO is someone new to the SEO world and lacks experience with the various hats.

black hat seo always pinch to website, it is short term seo.

SEO isn´t about taking short cuts or screwing over the search engines (or, at least, it shouldn´t be) SEO is about turning out quality websites, basically thats what Google wants, quality websites Websites that benefit users White Hat SEO is about educating clients on what a good website is From the content to the design.

This nice knowing that white-hat seo really matters. So for a beginner like me, I want to practice more techniques to better know what really lies ahead.

White hat suggest creating content for users, not for search engines, and then making that content easily accessible to the spiders, rather than attempting to trick the algorithm from its intended purpose. White hat SEO is in many ways similar to web development that promotes accessibility, although the two are not identical. White hat SEO is not just about following guidelines, but is about ensuring that the content a search engine indexes and subsequently ranks is the same content a user will see.

How can some one do both?
Following and not following Google rules at same time!
If one don't follow Google in just one thing then all site will be regarded as Spam by Google isn't it?

Play safe with white hat seo but this new year i think i want to try "light" blackhat method

Hm...short but clear!I've expected top read long posts descibing details, and you've managed to put it this way!

White hat, black hat? It´s all about gaming the SE to get better placements. Seo practices are in constant change as the Internet evolves
