Can you please share thoughts on SEO for an ecommerce site.

Hi,

For SEO means Select some site related keywords,title,description,and most important is Content for the site. these are all important for SEO.

As you done for any site i think for e-commerce not different algo, so done all activities and got ranking!!!

Basic rules as like others:
on-page seo
get quality backlinks.

Yaa i agree with Govind algo are not different analysis keyword and done on page as well as off page nothing more special for e-commerce site...

Make sure you have some text on all the pages.
Show important categories on the hopepage.

there are no different way to do SEO for ecommerce sites....do same as different site...just meta tags...h1 to h6, link navigation, keywords density..and other activities like link exchange with relevant sites...social bookmarking, forum posting...and other.....

i think an E commerce site really need an optimization both on page and off page....so that the site can income to the owner

For E-commerce site do onpage optimization properly and try to get more quality backlinks.
Article submission also helps for E-commerce sites.

similarity :

1. On page elements as title, description, keywords, header tag and alt tags all has the same importance as they have in another website.

2.off page technique are almost same as link building , directory submission, article submission, forum posting etc have the same importance.


Difference:

1. for ecommerce website long term keyword are more beneficial

2. robots.txt and sitmap are playing important role in ecommerce website optimization as we don't want to index each sectoin (most time payment and admin section is prohibated)

3. result aur product pages are mostly dynamic in nature so url rewriting is very important..

4. classified ads and regional submission is very important part of off page campaign.

Thanks for sharing some good points, I think its useful for ecommerce site. If you are looking for business from site then ranking is meter.

Content is more important in promotion of ecommerce websites. Through content you can describe it properly according to the product.
