NEW : Canonical Link Tag

Google, Microsoft, Yahoo all together announced a new tag to resolve the duplicate content problem.

Syntax is pretty simple. Lets say you have this ugly url

Code:

http://www.example.com/page.html?sid=asdf314159265

and you want to tell search engines that the url is actually

Code:

http://www.example.com/page.html

To accomplish that you just put code like this in the HEAD part of the document:

Code:

<link rel="canonical" href="http://example.com/page.html"/>

Good move from search engines I guess. This will certainly help many solve the canonical issue with less technical knowledge.

I heard about that, read many blog articles about how many peopel thought it wouldnt be successful, lets see how it goes.

or not a so popular tag at all

it's my first time to hear that tag

but it's good we can now avoid doing duplicate sites

Thats a new tag they introduced.

I just wonder if HTML validators would find is an error

I haven't watch the video but i read the article that way it is more clearer to me to understand it. I already read this..it was posted on Google Blog and i'm just recalling about how this tag would help in dealing the dupe content issue..any thoughts on what you have watched? I'm asking to get some explanation..or point of view..so do you have any idea?
