Dofollow - Does this Matter?
I understand how a link with "nofollow" will prevent spiders from following those links and can help prevent spam. However, I see some links with "dofollow". The problem is that this doesn't seem to be a valid tag.
Does anyone know the real history of this tag?

We simply don't need to add the dofollow attribute if we want crawling for all the links.

dofollow is not a valid tag. as Amit said simply don't use nofollow if you want it be dofollow.
nofollow was first introduced to fight spam comments on blogs. it prevents passign link juice not to stop following the link. even if you have a nofollow on a link, search engine spiders would follow the link.Free Classified Ads & BUSINESS/PROFESSIONAL SOCIAL NETWORK

no follow attributes are still follows by the crawlers, its only used to moderate PR juices, so meaning.. even you have this attributes.. this is still valid for Search engine crawlers

Well, without nofollow you wouldnt get any of the goodies that backlinks bring you, but if the URL is nofollow and visible on a high traffic site then it would give traffic to you.
