There number of sources of getting traffic. Social book marking, Forum posting, Classified ads, Blog Commenting, Article submission and Social media are best and very effective sources to generate traffic.

Yes these are all good valid strategies for generating traffic. Some are more promising than others in 2012. Social media marketing and the strategies surrounding it are very popular and effective. One of the beauties of social media is the way it can flawlessly link between different websites that involve different marketing strategies. For example blog posts, articles, online press releases, forum posts etc can be posted on Facebook, Tweeted, and bookmarked. Then the bookmarks can be tweeted and so on... One connects to another perfectly.

Well I could say that there are infinite sources of traffic, because every website in the net is a potential traffic source.
However, if we talk about the most popular ones, I would divide them into three categories:

-Organic traffic from Google, Yahoo, Bing (SEO).
-Paid traffic (Adwords, Pof, Facebook advertising)
-Social media (All 2.0 sites, including Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

Get 1st ranked on Google is one of the best source for getting traffic. Not all social bookmarking sites give you traffic there are just fewer and it is also depends on what is your content. Forum posting and blog commenting must be your thoughts not like the spammer thanks for sharing this article, or just asking common questions etc.

There are many ways to get traffic to your site such as:
- Use free classified ads
- Use press release
- Use free traffic system
- Forum post

For traffic you can do banner advertising, ppc or you can also try social media optimization etc.
