Thread: Do URL shortening like hurt your back link?

I was wondering if bit.ly or goo.gl hurt your back link? I have started to use them because of URL length restrictions.

I think not, cause i see that many popular websites use url shortening...and they are still on top.

Yeah like Twitter always converts to short URLs...

I don't think so as I have used it many time and never observed anything like this.

It will be a waste of time if you are planning to use it for backlink purpose. It will pass on the benefit to short url service provider and not your website. It can be used in social networking sites or bookmarking sites if you want to bookmark your page again.

I also agree with Leif. It will now give you any backlink support. You may use it for your publicity purpose. I have share your details with others also.

Actually watch this, and you will see that URL shortening do not hurt your backlink, only a rel="" can stop PR from flowing. As a normal link would.
