Default What is a "quality backlink", really?

I'm a newbie, less than two months invested in website development. From posts in this forum there's a near-consensus that the quality and quantity of backlinks pointing back to a website is a key driver for high page ranking. I'm going to guess that Gogole algorithms are complex, but I need someone to distill this concept for my teeny brain. What would achieve a higher page rank, all other things being equal:

    1. 100 backlinks from blogs, forums, other websites that all themselves are ranking on P.10

    2. 10 backlinks from the same sources that are ranking on p. 5

    3. 1 backlink from the a source that is ranking on p.1.

If my 3 scenarios are useless and off the mark, please tell me why and give 3 alternates scenarios. I realize that there would several 'tiers' of backlinks in the real world, i.e., one backlink from a PR5 site then points to another on a PR2 site, which then points to mine. But if you don't mind indulging my query with the above simplistic scenarios it would be useful for me to get my head around this whole 'quality' thing. Many thanks in advance!

Talking Quality backlinks are the natural backlinks

Well...Google as you said has a very complex algorithm, but they always go with a simple yet effective thought in mind - Provide best results for users. Therefore all you have to do is to provide quality materials for users and Google will make sure you will get best results. Sure, we live in a social world so even Google agrees that is important to spread the word so...just submit your content to sites like Facebook, Google Plus, StumbleUpon, Digg or whatever you know is genuine and worthy and then, if the story is good it will grow.

Nobody really knows how Google algorithms work, but one thing is for sure: they become better everyday and if you don't play it right you might not be happy of the results.

To keep it simple...just build good content, give it some social boost and if it's worthy you will get plenty of great quality backlinks from others.

In my opinion, just concentrate on getting links from your niche dofollow link with high PR it will be more helpful to increase your ranking and traffic, getting so many links in irrelevant sites with no follow will not help to increase your ranking but you can get traffic from there.

Link exchange is a powerful marketing strategy but the backlink to your website should be from related sites and on topic.A quality backlink is that which doesn't matter what type of links you are getting but links from high quality websites will help you to rank better and be more visible in the eyes of search engines.

Quality backlinks simply refer to backlinks being from authority sites and also relevance to content. Your backlinks must be informative and appropriate else it just fails to do the job of a good backlink.

To get quality backlinks use your name as anchor text instead of using keywords. post on pages that has less than 3000 Alexa rank. You don't need to spam to get traffic.

For me quality backlink is getting backlink from any such place which i like, i feel its worth to read. no matter that page is having pr or not but if you feel there is some quality in that article. You can appreciate or give comment over there and it will really help you. eg when i commented on some article it had 0 pr last before somedays when i checked 1 page had 5 and another had 3 pr

Quality links is where your links are placed. e.g If you have a education site, you want to build backlinks for the site. For that you post a comment in another education site. first thing is whether you are build the links to the relevant site? Then it should be google authority site, must have a long term web archive.

In search engine optimization (SEO) terminology, a quality backlink is a backlink that links to your Web site using your keywords or keyword phrase, and also appears on a Web site that has the same theme or similar content topic as your own Web site.

A backlink is good when it comes from a high PR site and will never be removed.
