While nofollow does help a little with spam prevention, it hinders a lot of other commentary. With nofollow there is a tag added to the link which tells search engines not to send a spider to index the destination of the link. The reader can follow the link, however search engines don’t give the target site any credit, as it does with ordinary links. This gives other bloggers less of an incentive to express their opinions and add useful information to your blog.
For SEO purposes dofollow can be very useful, especially if the comments and trackbacks are from a source with a strong ranking.

well! both are better,,,, because I have heard if you do only do follow and don't do no-follow then google won't rank you up considering you a spammer

Only do-follow blog comments are good because of link juice.

In my opinion do follow blogs are much better because do follow blog comments are crawl by search engines and it help in getting website ranked. On the other hand no follow blog comments are not crawl by search engines and they do not provide any type of benefit in our SEO campaign.

I think both are important. You should build links naturally and in balanced way. Your backlinks only not contains full of directory links. Backlinks should be from article directories, directories, classified directories, link pages, blogs, blog commenting (both dofollow and nofollow), press releases, web 2.0 sites, profile links.

I'd say both as well. The rel of the link doesn't really matter. What matters is the authority of the blog, post, relevancy and the anchor text used.

Off course do follow are better that no-follow blogs. You can get direct link if you posted a comment in do follow blogs... sometimes no-follow are good but we should always practice for do follow links.

Obviously do follow blogs are preferred as they give a link back to your website, but I tend to comment on high ranking no follow blogs as well, as i think google does take into account links from no follow blogs as well if they are reputed and relevant.
