Thread: Purposes of Directories

The role that web directories play is really something that is worth looking for and given attention. It could either make or break the success of any web site as I have been told. There are comments that the use of directories can help boost Google page rank as well as the volume of traffic or visitors that may come to our web sites. There have been lots of directories that have been founded as far as I can remember. It is our duty to locate which is the best and the most trustworthy ones out there. For me, DMOZ is the best. How about you?

Dmoz..it's like the slowest directory ever. The approval time is like a century(maybe 2?).
Directories are used for stable and permanent links BUT a common mistake people do, is that they don't take into consideration that their links are placed in subcategories.
Most people are looking for pr5 directories etc. However, their links are not placed in the pr5 page(which is the index) but in some sort of subcategory e.g. directory.tld/internet/forums/seo-forums/ which 99% will have less or NO pagerank.
Plus the facts that a majority of web directories requires a reciprocal link and the procedure is time-waisting(approval,e-mail confirmation etc.), link building from directories is one of the last priorities for an experienced SEOist(when making his seo plans/strategy).

Yes, getting listed in Dmoz will have a great impact in search rankings. But getting approved there is really hard.

I do agree with Dmoz Slow listing Process. Zeyde is good directory. review time is less and you get quality backlink

My site can still live without the directory sites.

great impact on SERP? my site was never listed on DMoz and I have surpassed the ranking of my competitors.

I think the purpose of directory submission is to just increase out site's link popularity and to have more traffics..

I find Best of the Web directory a good one. but article directory is sure better than just link directories

Related categories contain web pages that are similar to the ones in the category there shown websites. those links are increase the link popularity.

Directories are should play a major role in your SERP efforts.

Submitting in niche directories will give better traffic & link popularity. It also provides us quality back link while submitting in quality sites. Even it gives PR too while submitting in high PR Do Follow sites. The best web directory is DMOZ.

Dmoz is slow listing proces but good web directory. Yahoo directory and botw are also good directory.
