It depends on your site, link building techniques you are undertaking, site from where you got your backlink, Google cache etc. You must be patience in SEO.

How can we maintain the clients timing with targeted keywords with 6 month for 5 basic keywords...is this perhaps..??? meet again.

it dipped on strength of competition on keywords, for normally a site will be ranked with 10 keywords in 7 month

SEO depends upon the competition of the area where you concentrating your web sites, if the number of web sites competing for the same process then competition will be more, for example travel web sites. So this will take more time to see good SERP resultls.

There is no doubt that SEO is time consuming. But the results completely depends on your efforts. By doing different SEO activities on daily basis, you can get good number of links and Google like links through different sources. So, there will be no problem by building more number of links in a day when you get links through different sources.

Well you are right that SEO is long process but you if you try to get traffic on your website you can take a PPC that take little bit time and grow your business.
