You can use search ranking tools such as what is offered by rankchecker.net (for the top 100 results), or seoserp.com (for top 1000 results). But you can also do it manually in Google. If you entered a search query, Google will display results in this format:
Keyword-Position.Com - Keyword Position Checker | Keyword Tool ...
Keyword-Position.Com offers you a free tool to check the position of the keyword for your website in a major search engines Google, Yahoo & MSN. ... Find Keyword Position ...
keyword-position.com/ - Cached - Similar
Hover (don't click) your mouse over the "Cached" link, check on the status bar of your browser, and you can see a URL like this:
http://74.125.153.132/search?q=cache:yryiH-Vyqm0J:keyword-position.com/+how+to+find+keyword+position+in+yahoo&cd=7&hl=en&ct=clnk
I highlighted the "cd=7" portion because it denotes the position of the web page, which is in the 7th place. However, I don't know how to do it in Yahoo.Check out our New Online Casino Directory!

To check your keyword position in Google search results, I would recommend that you do not use any 'automated software'
If you cannot find your keyword in the search results, I recommend that you look at your website to see if you have optimised the pages for 'on page' seo optimisation, including page meta tags, title, description and keywords.
Next would be to check links pointing to the page or website to ensure that you have the links formatted correctly, with regard anchor text etc.
To increase the search results of your website you should also submit your website to relevant directories making use of relevant keywords in the links to your website.
