What is the difference between Black and White Hat in SEO?

According to Search Engine like Google, Black hat SEO tactics such as spamdexing, attempt to redirect search results to particular target pages in a fashion that is against the search engines' terms of service, whereas white hat methods are generally approved by the search engines. White hats tend to produce results that last a long time, whereas black hats anticipate that their sites may eventually be banned either temporarily or permanently once the search engines discover what they are doing.

Black Hat SEO is optimizations that are against search engine guidelines. If you step too far over the mark, your site may be penalized or even removed from the index.

White Hat SEO techniques involve building a great website, full of unique content and promoting that website legitimately and within search engine guidelines.

this is correct, black hat is banned by se.

Hi,
White hat techniques is ethical.An SEO optimist should use white hat.whereas black hat techniques is illegal.In short time you can generate traffic but if google penalize the sites using black hat techniques it will remove their listings from database altogether.

simple difference if you break Google guideline may be your site banned in Search Engine, so follow Google guideline if you want long time visibility in Search Engine!!

I don't know much.
But i think black white is doing SEO by breaking basic Google rules or tricking search engines,
And white hat is doing SEO by genuine methods.

Black hat is SPAM SEO Tactics and White Hat is Ethical way of SEO Techniques.

And main difference is that if you using black hat techniques... So Google can bane your site from the google listing... & But that will not happen in White hat techniques...!!!

Black Hat - uses unethical techniques in order to get high rankings. Door-way pages, cloaking and keyword stuffing are just some of the techniques that falls under black hat.

White Hat - devoted to properly optimize your site to attract crawlers attention and build long relationship with search engines.

yup i agree with theseomonk don't break Google guidelines if you break it may be you penalized by Google...

Black hat techniques are deceptive and try to fool the search engines. White hat are designed to assist the search engines in properly ranking a site.
So simply you can say that Black Hat technique for SEO is Illegal methods where you can see like a sort of cheating in search engine optimization and the White Hat technique is the opposite.

Its an unethical technique. The purpose of SEO to get traffic & ranking- it should be proper. It has limits. if u do this in improper way, it is said to be black hat. White hat essentially means good practice.

Any technique that follows the guidelines of search engines is considered a white hat technique. These SEO techniques are not meant to deceive or mislead the search engine into giving you page a false higher rank. In addition to following the guidelines are not the only thing that your site must adhere to, your site should also have relevant information on the site based on the keywords the page is ranked on. The user should be able to see the content on the site that they saw when they read the result in the search engine. There are other smaller techniques that are considered white hat but it can be summed up as creating quality content for users and making it easily accessible for search engines to locate using there crawling techniques. This will get your site noticed and quality content will get your page ranked higher thus in creasing your page rank the right way.

On the other hand black hat techniques do the exact opposite. These are methods that search engines disapprove of and can result in some serious consequences. Black hat techniques involve text that is not visible to the user, cloaking, or linking overload. Cloaking is the ability for a website to redirect search engine crawlers to one website and human visitors to another. This is done to deceive search engines and leads to a misleading page rank. Linking overload involves linking numerous sites that have no real connection to the topic or content and are added simply to try and increase page rank. With any website you want to avoid these black hat techniques.

Black Hat is all about the unethical techniques used to get high rankings in Search engines and White Hat is just all opposite of it.
