The next Google update will be 3-4 month time after last update which is December 31,2009 ..I think the more higher PR rank you can get for your site the higher chance for you to get PR rank

The number of back links you need depends on the website from where you get link.
Like if you get only one backlink from google.com homepage to your site then your PR will be atleast 4-5 but if you have backlink from 1000 websites all of pr0 then you will get no mre than pr2!science and math : Mathematics

Page rank is being updated by google for every three months (It is not fixed, it varies, sometimes 3 months, sometimes 01 month or etc). To get PR to your site, you have to get backlinks, but there is no formula or any tips to calculate number of backlinks which you need to get PR1. What you can do is, you can keep on getting backlinks to your site from your niche related sites as well as from the webpages which do have good PR. Those will help you to get good PR on next update.

there is not set value for how many links to get a pr 1. i dont think you have to do much to get a PR1, you will get it without doing much.

Actually there's no correct indication or fixed number which determines how many inbound links that will determine a pr ranking. Generally, the reason is because there are several factors that comes into play such as link relevancy, pr of the link, placement of the link (footer, header or inline) and the anchor text that will be taken into account before a certain weight is assigned to the link.
