Thread: Partner required to make a directory

I think Directories are a nice business to get into. However, I don't have any knowledge about hosting and creating a directory. Amir has agreed to take care of the hosting but I still need someone to create the directory. Once the directory gets created, I will work to design logos, banners etc and promote it at different forums.

The directory will only have Featured and reciprocal links. This way we can earn money and get some good backlinks. Our PR will increase probably till next update. Promoting the directory will not be a problem because there are so many bloggers and webmasters at different forums looking to get links.

So overall, I need someone to partner with me and create the site. Amir will take care of hosting and I will take care of graphics and promoting.

What say? Anyone with technical knowledge interested?

I would suggest not to go for directory. There are way too many. And I think you would hardly earn much. But its your decision of course.

Why don't you create a website for blogs? There are many blogs in internet they can register and add their blog title, description, picture is automatically loads in your site. This is my idea. I can do reciprocal linking.

Directory is a huge industry. You will not be able to compete with them unless you know what you are doing. Either learn everything about directory (trust me there is a lot of things you need to know when starting a directory) or get in to something that you know about. Just getting your directory is not the only thing and awesome graphs means nothing. Directory is for use full resources. I would suggest you to get in to a nitch directory, like lists of a certain business. Just like any other business directory is a business so you need to have a business plan like what are you targeting at money or just providing a useful resource for people or it is a fun project for you.

Directories are great so if you have every thing is order and know what you are doing def. for it. But you would need good amount of money to promote it.

TIP: The more listing you reject (what type of listings you approve/disapprove) will impact a lot on your directory and make your directory a hit.

Find a programmer and figure out what do you want in your directory before hand and spend few thousand $$$$ to develoe it, because the uniqueness of your directory matters.

Yes it's really important not to automatically accept any site to your directory. If you do, then Google will not credit any link as they will not be a sign of quality. If you only accept quality sites, then Google will see all sites accepted as a mark of quality, and will reward them in SEO terms.
