Facebook’s timeline feature differs vastly from all other updates. Although the idea is in keeping with the usual “newest to oldest” information format, the layout still takes some getting used to.

Profile and Cover Photo The first thing you’ll notice is your profile picture is smaller, but you now have a huge area, nearly the width of the page, for a larger image. This is called a cover photo. Fairly short and wide, this area is perfect for panoramic pictures, scenery, the pets, or a close up (& crop) of a larger picture. Just like your profile picture, older covers are saved in an album for your Facebook friends to browse through. The new cover photo has also enabled many “hacks,” or clever uses of both pictures, making them look like they’re connected.
