Thread: Meta Description Does not Play a Role in SERP Ranking

Meta description does not play a role in determining SERP rankings in Google. Only they are to be used determining the small summary Google shows for the site.

Any thoughts?

Are the meta tags the words we put after the article is written in a little box? I always seem to get mixed up with this term Meta Tags and still no one has ever explained to me what they are. I think I know but am not sure if I am off the mark. Can someone help me please?

META Description Tag is only the helpful and useful tags from my view. It can help to increase CTR of your website.

Always try to use words like -
20% Off,
Buy,
Find;
and something interesting which can attract your visitor to check your website.

If your description has some nice keywords then it can increase your serp ranking. That's what i think happens but i am not sure.

Meta description shows up in Google search results, so im sure it has some effect. Meta keywords, on the other hand, dont.

This is a very controversial issue actually. Lot of big name SEO guys do not use meta description at all, still rank higher. I don't know which one is true.

Well, if you search for anything on Google, a lot of times the words are highlighted in the description of the site too, so it might have some effect. The Meta title of the site also has an effect, but meta keywords only have effect from social bookmarking and directories.

i just think that it is better to have the description than to not. It can only benefit your site.

Thats what I thought as well at the beginning. Then I get in a conversation with some experts who really do not believe it got any effect on SERPs.

So afterwards I did an experiment taking off the meta description. Guess what my main keyword that was ranking #1/#2 out of 64M gone down to around #10. I had my lesson, and I put it back asap

and that's the best way to learn in my opinion.

I don't agree with it, Description is helpful in telling all about the page is related to and its is basically the food for Robots and nothing is useless for promoting website in ethical way.
