Thread: Some great ways to increase your Page Rank

Ever since my blog lost its Page Rank, I have been working a lot to learn more about Page Rank and how to improve mine and get it back to 2.

What is Page Rank? It is an indicator created by Google that tells the importance of a website through different ways. The ranking ranges from 0 to 10. If your site has a ranking of 10, then it is one of the best site on the internet. I am sure it is not surprising to you guys when I say that Google has a Page Rank of 10. I personally think that Google should not give itself a Page Rank because it might be a biased decision.
Note: Some site owners might see "N/A" when they check their Page Rank. This means that your site is new and that you would have to wait till the next Page Rank update to get your page rank.

How does Google determine our Page Rank? There are several factors that Google takes into consideration before giving a website its deserved Page Rank. However, it should be noted that no one knows for certain how Google determines Page Rank. People have been guessing a lot but only some of them are true. I will tell you about some important factors.

Backlinks or Votes You would have noticed that websites have a "link" section and blogs commonly have a "Blogroll" or "Friends" section. Why is that? It is a technique to increase your Page Rank. If site A has a link to Site B then according to Google, site A is voting for site B. The more the votes a site has, the higher the page rank will be. One important thing to note is that not all links/votes are worth the same. If you get your link on Google (highly impossible) then that will impact your page rank greatly compared to your link on a cheap new blog.

Links need to be relevant When people first found out that exchanging links is a good way to increase your page rank, they started to exchange links with anyone and everyone. However that is not good because Google only counts votes from websites that have the same content as you or have the same keywords as your site. For example, if your site is about perfumes then do not exchange links with a site that is about technology and gadgets. It just would not be worth the trouble.

Visitors Another important factor in determining your page rank is the amount of unique visitors that come to your site or blog. If only few people come to your site and it is not popular than you will not have a good Page Rank but if your site gets like 5000 hits everyday then you will definitely have a high Page Rank. A great way to get more visitors is to use social bookmarking sites like Digg. This way you will be promoting your content and website and bring visitors to your site. Also, you should write unique content so that it attracts lots of visitors and increases your page rank.

Finally, A lot of people do not believe in Page Rank and make fun of it because there are a lot of ways that you can manipulate it (some are mentioned above). This is a very heated debate among bloggers and advertisers at paid to post sites. Thus, other ways have emerged to evaluate the importance of a site such as Alexa Ranking, Technorati, Real Rank etc.

You said high visitor sites have high page ranks. In my opinion PR does not depend on number of visitors.

Well it is true in most cases. Everything is linked. If you have good PR then you probably have several backlinks and thus you will get more traffic.

The main point for getting good PageRank for your website and web pages is having backlinks from high PR quality relevant websites to your theme/category. PageRank depends on external votes (BLs) from other relevant web resources. So, we always have to try to get as many as quality BLs from the relevant sites/ blogs and forums.

And, I prefer Quality + Quantity.

3. Create an opt-in page where visitors provide their name and email address for further information.
4. Create newsletters and special announcements to send out to your auto-responder list of subscribers.
5. Write articles and press releases
6. Implement the use of Viral Marketing
7. Join forums or discussion sites to gain information and to share your knowledge
8. Exchange or trade links with other websites
