- Your body needs to move: With our modern style of living, we often forget that humans are part of the animal reign. As any other specie, we need to move. Exercise is crucial for our health. Since the last 60 years, with the dawn of industrialisation and modernisation, people do not need to hunt and cultivate their food anymore. Our ancestors HAD to fight for their survival, harvesting their fields etc. Long story short: 30 minutes of exercise, 3 times a week is enough to keep your body in good shape!
- Adopting A Healthy Diet: Did you know that people are eating often 3 times the amount of meat they need to be in good health? In fact, we should be eating around 70% of vegetables (mostly greens), 10-15 % cereals and other form of carbs and only 10-15% meat? Many people have diet that is mostly (80%) based on meat and carbs (10-15%) ? Eat veggies, your body will thank you!
- Drink water! : For your kidneys and liver to work properly, you need to drink at least 1 to 1.5 liters of water everyday. Not soda… WATER! People who do not drink enough water leave themselves at risk for several diseases like cancer, liver stones, obesity and many more affections. Dehydration also leads to a deficit of attention, difficulty to concentrate, wariness and fatigue.
- DON’T Smoke! : Tobacco is responsible for millions of deaths worldwide every year. It also costs billions of dollars to many governments and families to treat diseases related to the use of tobacco.
- Get Regular Medical Examinations: If you can afford it, get at least one general medical examination every year in order to detect diseases such as cancer, diabetes or cholesterol as early as possible. Early detection will drastically improve your chances of survival. (This is probably one of the most important of those good health tips)
- Avoid Prolonged Sun Exposure: Avoid sunburns. At all costs. Whenever you go out, carry your sunblock with you. It has been proven that sunburns are directly connected to skin cancer. Do not underestimate this.
- Take care of your friendships: It has been proven that people having a lot of friends live longer. This is probably because it reduces the amount of stress.

Drink at least a half gallon of water a day, that's 4 pints. That's only if you don't sweat or aren't very active. From there, you must drink more. If you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated. It's like a low fuel or other warning light. You always could use a little more if you are most people. I need to work on this.
Exercise, by this I mean things that get the heart rate up and sustain that, such as jogging, biking, swimming, or even just a brisk paced walk. 20 minutes of sustained heart rate of 70% of your max which is above 120-130 beats per minute for many, is good for cardio. After 20 minutes, you begin to burn fat, but not before. You many burn a small amount, but if you want to lose weight, you have to get past the 20 minutes of straight cardio exercise. You should do 20 minutes or so a day for at least 3 times a week, if not 4 days.
Cut out the trans-fats. This is a type of saturated fat that was made to help food stay on shelves longer, but is horrible for you. Cut down on saturated fats. You still need some. Just don't over-do it. Unsaturated fats and carbohydrates are good for you. You need them for energy as well as for brain power. Too few carbs will dull the mind. Cholesterol, you also need. That's why it's listed on the nutritional information. The myth is that you need to keep it under 200. That is actually unhealthy for people under the age of 50 years of age. You need both types of cholesterol. HDL and LDL do different functions and are part of healthy bodily function. The number you should worry about are the tri-glycerides in the blood. These are the bad fats. Those are the ones that cause heart disease, not cholesterol. There's plenty of research out there that isn't paid for by big pharma to sell excess statins like Lipitor. They'll make you sick if you don't have extremely high cholesterol. This means over 400.
With diet, exercise, and enough water, you can live a healthy lifestyle. It doesn't also hurt to take in enough anti-oxidants like Alpha Lipoic Acid. This probably the best antioxidant due to its ability to recycle other antioxidants like vitamin c. There are other herbal supplements that will help you live healthier and age better, but that is a topic for a different day.
