Thread: Family Kept Woman Locked for 18 Years!

A family in southern Italy kept a woman locked in a room in their house for 18 years because they were angry she was pregnant out of wedlock.

Police say they freed the woman, now 47, on Friday in Santa Maria Capua Vetere. The ANSA news agency said she was taken to hospital for psychiatric care.

Police said they arrested her brother and sister, and put her 80-year-old mother under house arrest. ANSA says police received an anonymous tip.

Italian TV showed the room with a bed, chair, filthy toilet and sink.

Police said the woman's child, now 17, was living with relatives and didn't know about his mother

The family should be locked in small coffin and left to rot for doing something so horrible. 18 years of life in a room! I would have killed myself or I would have lived just to take revenge.

I have heard of a similar story in an Greek village when I was living in Grecce. This is so inhumane. I don't undersrtand why there is so much inmportance put on a woman's virginity and not on basic human love and understanding. I think they are not human myself. They need life inprisonment at least.:C

Its probably the culture we all built over the past. Not gonna go away in a few days for sure.

I say we all go and kidnap that family and lock them somewhere.

that family should be punished...they are really cruel and they are noone to give that kind of punishment to that lady...for 18 yrs...god...

that's something i can't understand. they have no right to do it.

it's really bad situation.

I can't stay that long in a room. I'll go insane..maybe she is now! There are really inhuman people out there, who care much of the tradition than the person.

yes it is very bad but what can we do for this?

it is such long time that she have been locked for 18 years. May be she has done some wrong but this is not the way to punish her.
