    Default Growing Vegetables

I have just planted some tomatoes, cucumbers, courgettes, sweet peppers, strawberries, basil, coriander and potatoes in my garden. It is so exciting and I really hope that it will prove to be a good money saving exercise as well as fun for the children.

Does anyone have any tips for growing these veggies, fruit and herbs, thank you.

My wife is upto those things. Its wonderful to garden. Saved a lot of money.
I cant advise on gardening since I don't know much. But I can give a storing tips Boil the vegetables you like to store for winter; then put in the deep freezer (without water). Surprisingly there is not a huge taste change doing this.

    Wow, that's cool. I don't have a garden myself and I wouldn't grow vegetables I don't eat anyway.

You can check out this article I mentioned " The 7 Deadly Homemade Weed Killers" at The 7 Deadly Homemade Weed Killers .

Yup, and if you don't use pesticides and all, that is supposed to be the hyped up organic food (that costs more than non-organic ones) right?

Ours will not be organic - we have put them in non-organic grow bags, smothered them with slug pellets and will be using fertilizer when watering them.

Unfortunately this morning, one tomato plant has its top damaged, hopefully it will recover and one of the the courgettes has been eaten. I think I might have to buy a slug trap today. I wonder what slugs favourite food is - maybe if I gave them lots of that they would leave my stuff alone.

I think it's grear Rachel what you are doing. Once I am sorted and can buy my own home with land I will do the same. W e are desparate with Hubby to get out of this City. Prya for us. I want to learn organic farming and also sustainable living systems. I am going to launch my envirothlon soon. I have to go and eat.l One good thing is that we have an organic supermarket just around the corner so that is good at least. I eat far less than before, but no junk and all organic.

That sounds like a great goal to have. I am purely growing my own to try to save money, the health aspect and it being fun for the children are just good side effects. I just hope the slugs do not eat any more of my plants
