Thread: What makes users more active?

Hey,
I'm researching what makes users more active on forums and starting from Digital Point forums through others like WebCosmo.

What do you think can make a forum different?

* How much rich are the users?
* how much biz they have?
* How much free time they have?

Also what are the factors that increase quality posts?
I found this forum forum.freelanceswitch.com which is small but has a very high quality of replies and posts.
Do you think members who reply are paid? or it's just about their mentality?

There are tons of things. At webcosmo, contests get peopel to post more, and then some people post a lot because they want to and like the forum, others feel its a sense of duty as mods or old members, and then there are those who need to post to actually get information - like you

Reasons are as wide as the number of forums on the internet.

i think it's mostly about the forum's atmosphere

if users are nice and help each other it'll lead to more post

whereas a very serious forums will scare users

yaa i think user want accurate answer if you create and reply right answer user more active contest is also play major roll for increasing and active more members!!! amir explain very well here!!!

Right answers to users posts and useful stuff makes users more active on the forum

Amir i agre with you...i think if forum give "do follow link" some user join for getting link and one more think if forum have responsible mod as well admin and they input some use full thread as well right answer then user more active...

Well the main think that attracts the user to post is his reputation at the site, Seeking Information, Giving Information etc etc

Yes I feel it for this forum and another community (Hacker News), we become like a small family (yet it's big!)

However i don't feel it on DP, I feel like i'm on a big city like NY, where there's a lot of people and each day you meet new ones and forget last ones

good content, friendly mods ( not like those iching to ban ), friendly members.

your idea should be suitable for visitors ,then will attract more visitors

As far as I know, most of the users are joing to forums to promote their business. However, there are guys who have joined to learn more as well as some are experts are there to give help hands who joined there for fun or for their business

forums like that (not for promoting) are always small, if they grown they become sh*t, like digg.Com and reddit.com

example: news.ycombinator is very like programming.reddit.com, but reddit.com become bad because it grew, and hn remained small but with good quality

its always interaction that makes me have interest in a forum.. some forums are filled with small talks and posts that does not really make sense.. a good team of forum staff and mods will surely make a great forum active...

Getting new promotional ideas, information, resources, their own interest and for creating links for their website through postings.
