Email a Dying Communication Media?
According to a report by eROI, DMNews, Bokardo, and Skype & Harris Interactive email communication is a dying media amongst young population.
Here are some of the interesting facts from the report:
- average number of email addresses per student is 2.4
- Gmail is the preferred email service, beating out Yahoo and MSN/Hotmail by a wide margin
- Over 66% check their email at least once per day
- College students love social networks, especially Facebook and MySpace
- No Big surprise: 61% of students read marketing emails on a “rarely to never” basis
- Text messaging (37%) comes in first as a means of student communication with email (26%), Social networking IM (15%) and Instant messaging (11%) falling into 2nd, 3rd and 4th places respectively.Webmaster Forum <--to the honor of webcosmoforums.com for having us this great place to hang out.

Young kids now use Facebook and MySpace a lot to communicate instead of emails...including me.

well what can i say.. in india text messaging come first and maybe email or letters lol.. young people like to use social networking sites to convey there messages..

social networking sites are really useful to talk to your distant friends but using it to talk to someone who lives next door is uesless.

For formality sake I guess emails are still in use.. But for instant and speedy communications I don't think emails still reign.

When I was in College, I already prefer to use gmail rather than Yahoo. And in most cases, I don't get an email coming from my fellow students on these email services. We mostly communicate through messenger and social networking accounts like myspace, multiply, and friendster.
So I guess that article is correct.
And oh, another reason is that there's already a cellphone for an immediate means of communication media.

I do not think so. I think the opposite thing is happening in the world. More and more countries are bracing up email for accelerating work procedure.

More teens are using social networking in order to communicate due to it is more fun and they can meet others with same interest as them and they could easily publish their profiles..aside from it social networking sites do have already email embedded on their system...
