Thread: Bait and Switch

Bait and Switch is a way of marketing. Ecommerce site owners display cheap products to users at first.

However, when the customers decide to buy it, they tell them that it is unavailable and show them something that they do have.

Have you ever tried this technique to sell your products?

Yes I have heard a lot about this, I just read an interesting blog post HERE about this I was a very eye opening read.

Bait and switch in the United States is illegal. Although it is still used and is up to the customer to complain. It is a poor practice to get into as your reputation would suffer as a result and someone would eventually report the violation. The way some companies do it legally though is that they offer a limited quantity at the low price and then when the "one or two" items is gone you search for something similar at a higher price. Unfortunately it is not illegal and is used all the time here in the United States.

LOL yea and those After Thanksgiving Day Sales. Little fine print says "limited to 100 total in all stores and they have 100 stores.

I would not really get into it. It serves to give you a very bad reputation and eventually your sales will suffer. It may not affect you right away, but eventually it will put a damper in your sales.
