I think links to good sites and back links to them are very useful for higher ranking but the site must have something attractive that customer log into the site. As the number of the customers who log into the site increases the rank of site increased as well.

find some similar forums make some accounting and include your forum link once you have enough posts to not be considered an identifier to place a link and execution.
