Its a open directory project. People work for them free in different categories. If you have bad people working in a category, thats it; your site never gonna go in. Or worst if some of those people are from your competitor sites, you never gonna get in.
Just submit your site then forget about it

DMOZ is great, trust me. Its your best friend, a directory. Directories are the best friend for someone with a fresh site, because it will take your freshly baked site and try its best to get you traffic.
Submit it all.Amir Mullick, SEO and Internet Marketer.

So many sites use DMOZ for propagation it cant hurt.
I have had sites accepted in a week or two, but some took forever!

Another respected directory is botw.org. They have been around since '94. Btw, I don't have anything to do with them other than having a listing with them. It took awhile to get the listing reviewed though.

If your submission not approve in 1 month (ideally), change your category and try to re-submit until you meet a category which have 'not lazy' editors, full dedicated volunteer. Some volunteer applied to be editor in DMOZ just because they need to submit their own sites or clients'. They don't really care to other sites :P
I don't have to wait a month. If there's no progress in a week, I will search other category and re-submit. SOmetime, it just need a day to approve if you are lucky

It is 100% free ODP directory edited by human editors. You can submit your blog too. But remember only quality websites or blogs very useful and informative will get approval. The editors are very choosy. For this directory, always remember submit and forget. It takes 6 months to 1 year and more. It also approve a website in 10 days. Depending on the editors. They have lots of work. Donot submit your same blog again and again. Submit once. If you submit it again it goes again in long queue.

It's difficult to say whether a website will get dmoz listing or not. It's a human-edited website, and looks like editors are always busy in checking sites for inclusion or deletion.
