Thread: DMOZ Directory is the Best for Backlinks

If we talk about the quality web directory then yes DMOZ is one of the best example. Google trust the directory and use the data of dmoz in their directory. So if a website is approved in this directory atleast 2 excellent backlinks your website will get, first from dmoz and second from google. There are also hundred of web directories using ODP data. So follow the guidelines of dmoz. Submit once and forget.

Totally true, DMOZ is going totally useless now..Are you dmoz directory listing links reflects in the google BLs for your site?

I don't think there is some sort of effect for me but still I submit to that site, well, everytime I use a tool to somewhat grade my site, there is always that section wherein they will look at if there has been a DMOZ directory submission, so you guys are right, submit and forget. it only takes a few minutes.

DMoz should be a dead site, unbelievably corrupted people working as moderators! I am surprised Google is using their data!

I am reading that Dmoz is very good directory for backlink and it is very useful. But it takes more time to approval nearly 6 months. Is it right?? I am not yet submitting my site in Dmoz directory...

6 month is a small site buddy .....

exactly i think the approval in Dmoz take too many time i think choose right category and submit site and forget is best way also give to client at least 4-6 month for listing any site (also not give guarantee for approval)

It can take from a few days to a few years to get listed and there is no guarantee because DMOZ is not a listing service. It is designed for the end user and an editor will have many resources to build a category for the end user, suggested sites is just one of them and editors are free not to use suggested sites when they build or develop a category.

DMOZ don't boost your website's SERPs. It's a directory of PR8. That's all. It has the same link weight as another PR8 website backlink.

yes DMOZ directory is best for backlinks, because DMOZ is the world largest directory.

I thinks Dmoz didn't Approved New Sites.
but it's Back links still worth lot more and it's create trust able Back links in Google.

As Google takes link from DMOZ as authentication it helps a lot for getting page rank.

DMOZ being the best also means that there is a strict submission guidelines before a website is accepted. That means not every site that was submitted will get accepted and there are instances whereby some webmasters even wait for years without success. The best option is to submit once the site has been established with strong backlink profile.

I would not know how to check for whatever you commend here and I am a DMOZ editor of nearly 10 years standing.

There is no way to guarantee a listing, we are not a listing service. We set out to collect links that we think an end user will want. An editor can choose to work which area s/he wants provided it is within the area allotted by DMOZ. Suggested sites are just that, suggestions, we are not obliged to use the suggestions pool when we build a category. That means a site can wait for years for an editor to review the site for possible listing.

Unique content rich sites is what we look for, they can be brand new, (except things like blogs, forums or directories) or old it does not matter. Neither does it matter if they have the latest gizmos or bang up to date building techniques. PR or any other ranking is of no importance to us. UNique content rich sites which the editor decides has something to offer the category that s/he is working on is the only condition.
