I have no such bad experience with dmoz. I approved more than 10 websites and 2 blogs in dmoz. And all the resources were approved in 3-5 months. I know the dmoz listing is not helping alot in ranking but yes 1 backlink from the old established directory considered by google.

Dmoz is talked about too much but it's really too difficult to get listed in it.I have tried several times and fail each time.

    Let me ask you this:

How do you think that any directory (not just DMOZ) should treat those who can not follow the guidelines that they agree to when they suggest a site?

Do you think they should permanently banned?

Do you think you deserve to be permanently banned from DMOZ becasue you sumitted more than once. You agreed to submit only once when you ticked the box during the submission that you had read and understood the guidelines.

You have no one to blame except yoursefl.

It can take from a few days to a few years for a review for a possible listing of a suggested site.

DMOZ operates quite differently from most directories. First of all all its editors are volunteers working in their spare time. Secondly we do not set out to try and list as many suggestions as possible, we are not interested in any value our listing might give to a site and we have no concern if a site is PR9 or PR0 each are treated equally.

A site is only reviewed when an editor volunteers to work in that section of the directory AND wants to use the suggestions pool as the resource, the editor does not ahve to use suggestions and can add sites that s/he finds for themselves. We do that because we are not interested in adding sites just to build a bigger directory or to give value to the site but we are building categorised, colated links for people who want to use them for searching the internet.
My opinions are my own and do not represent DMOZ directory, staff or other editors.

DMOZ will be good for back link if it approves some sites but the great editors are always sleeping at DMOZ. I have also read that they rarely approve websites of SEO Compnies. Is it true?

DMOZ list any site which complies with guidelines. That might take from a few days to a few years. All editors are volunteers and work in their spare time for no financial payment. If you think they are asleep, why are sites still being listed. But hey, just a minute have YOU volunteered to work there unpaid and if not why are you complaining about people who do work as editors for their hobby?

Yea that's true about DMOZ being the best directory, but it's nearly impossible to get listed there
If you do get listed there consider yourself lucky
I've tried to get listed there many times and not one time did I get listed
If you are looking for a free directory, try out this one
    flysounds [dot] com

It's not DMOZ but at least it's free and one extra backlink

If your many times of trying means that you submitted your site more than once, against the guidelines you said you had read when you suggested the site, then you probably got it banned as spam.
