    Default dmoz submission

I have submitted my site to DMOZ 3 times in the past 6months. What does it take to be included? I think my site is pretty good - I see sites included that are nothing but advertising with very little content. I submitted everything correctly and followed their guidelines.

    How important is DMOZ?

dont loose your sleep over dmoz. if you are lucky and mods are in good mood you might get included.

its good to be there, but aint worth that much being crazy for this.

yaa the mod of DMoz are very bussy i think best approach to getting your site listed in DMOZ is to submit it, then expect it to possibly be accepted in then next one to two years or more...

What is really needed top get included is patience! If you have followed the guidelines and have submitted to the right category then have patient, there are sites that have been submitted for years which are still on the queue.

"Submitting 3 times in 6 months" - why did you submit more than once? You agreed to that when you ticked the box when you submitted! How do you think any directory (not just DMOZ) should treat those who can not follow the guidelines they agree to when they submit a site?

There is NEVER a need to resubmit. DOing so will only hurt your chances of getting reviewed and listed.

You probably have not grasped the basic concept of DMOZ
    1. It is NOT a listing service for site owners
    2. We ask site owners and the public for suggestions, that is what they are suggestions for our editors to use
    3. Did you see in those guidelines that you read carefully that NO site is guaranteed a listing.
    4. Understand that the job of an editor is not to list as many of the suggestions as possible, but to use their knowledge to build a category for someone who wants to use a categorised, collated grouping to search the internet
    5. We have no interest in if a listing gives a site any extra value or not
    6. We have peole wanting to surf the net in mind and pr or latest flash gizmos have no place in our judgement only unique content rich sites.
    7. Because are are amateurs, doing this for no financial reward in our spare time, it can take from a few days to a few years for a suggestion to be reviewed for a possible listing. So if you offered a few years ago, there is a good chance your site simply waits for a volunteer tp give up a bit of their spare time to want to work in that category.
    8. There is no finacial return in this for anyone. In fact AOL have to stump up money to keep the site going. Not many of the large directoiries work on hobbyists and no one getting any financial return.
My opinions are my own and do not represent DMOZ directory, staff or other editors.

Yes that is 6 months old. But if you browse dmoz.org then you will find that the 99% categories are not being updated since that 6 months before. I think as DMOZ says they can not reveal against their policy, they will not tell you exactly even if they are not going to update their Database too.

You 'barking up the wrong tree'. DMOZ is functioning fine and continues to be the fastest growing directory on the web, adding 3000-6000 new sites a month. Just becasue a category has not been updated for six months does not mean there are technical problem ....all that means is that no editor has made a choice to spend time in that category.

Its also bullshit that "99% categories are not being updated since that 6 months before" - you are making that up.
