Are you share that's the schema?

There seems a few obvious joins missing. Maybe that's how they've designed the db - but I would doubt it.

Its a good reference point if we are to design a social site database

I looked at the Facebook API thing, there are lot of differences with this one I must say.

I can't even imagine the performance issues that Facebook developers have to put up with.
