I demur on two points and generally think this is, at best, half an answer. I've observed a general, tentative agreement on the existence of three generations, but it quickly gets to be a messy topic.

    1. the COmmon Business Oriented Language is nicknamed COBOL not Cobal.
    2. c is often/usually seen as on the same level as assembler. c was originally used for writing operating system code, including device drivers, without having to resort to 0s & 1s &/or hex or octal - exactly why assembly languages were devised.

However, beyond the division of machine code, assembler (and possibly c), and more complex languages; I don't see much consensus. There are a variety of aspects of computing & natural languages, including (at the least): interpreted, compiled, object-oriented, functional, procedural, declarative ... well, wikipedia currently lists 40 some types.
