What is the difference between XP home basic and pro?
XP home basic - cheapest XP
XP home pro - more expensive, for what reason?
XP pro - MUCH more expensive
Is there any real difference? Or is it just a ploy?

XP pro I think comes with the option of IIS, which is a server allows you develop and test websites on your machine. There are other stuffs as well I am sure.

Home - No

Dual processor support (different from dual core processors)
Home - No - can only use 1 CPU

Both home and pro can support cpus with more then one core.
Remote desktop

Pro - can send and receive remote desktop connections
Those are just some of the differences.

Hi,
I think we could understand via Microsoft naming system, too. Home Edition is not a managed OS. It's optimized for that consumer market while Windows XP Professional is a business and power-user oriented superset edition.
all the best,

The Home and Professional editions of Windows XP are nearly identical; the only differences are additional features found in the Professional edition that most likely won't appeal to home users.
